With this particular sound bar, you CAN eliminate the receiver. The sound bar has surround decoding software/hardware just like your Onkyo receiver does. Since this particular Vizio sound bar has an HDMI output, it passes the video signal from the source thru the sound bar and on to the TV. If you have more than 1 video source I would suggest getting an HDMI switch (not a splitter) to connect your multiple sources to the single HDMI input on your sound bar. An example of an HDMI switch is listed below. This sound bar has 1 HDMI input and 1 HDMI output. I hope this helps.

Please try again later.When using a sound bar we would recommend connecting all of your external devices such as your streaming device directly to the TV, as the audio will feed to the sound bar from there. However if you would like to have the video pass through the sound bar this sound bar does have 1 HDMI input and 1 HDMI output, so you could use HDMI pass through.
