If you lose power, only the base will work... the wireless phone will not. The base is the wired part of this system and the land line supplies enough power to make a phone call like in the old days. Hope this answers your question.

If your "landline" telephone service is provided by your CABLE/INTERNET provider and comes into your house via a co-ax cable to a router first and is then sent to your landline phone via telephone cables FROM YOUR ROUTER, when you lose power, the router goes dead and...........................so does your landline phone.
