• Cathy - The connect to cell capability of the VTech DS6771-3 is an added feature. The phone will work normally even without pairing it to your cellular. Thank you, -VTech Support

• Cathy, I did not. My phone works great! Make sure you buy enough handsets that are compatible. I found out that not all V-Tech phones are compatible and had to order an additional three later on.
