I think that really depends on the child. I would buy it for my son if he wants one. I believe a preteen would love it, and is old enough not eat the pens tips or other small parts. So would not get it for a two-year old,

No it is not. You will profit by early immersion and familiarity with pen/pad technolgy as it evolves. Just learn and enjoy.

There is no minimum age listed anywhere on the packaging. I think a 10 year old should have no issues using this.
