If your laptop has already installed sata HDD this SSD can be installed but probably you will not be able to use at full speed because of your sata protocol (SATA I or II ). I am install this SSD on 5 years old samsung laptop and is speed up laptop very well.

You would need to check the drive type on older laptops. If you have IDE connectors (2 long rows of pins), it will not. If you have SATA connector (small connector kind of like USB but twice that size). it should be good to go. Note, the SATA connector will also have a power connector that is larger.
