“I purchased on Feb 11, 2021, basically the drive is now a year and a month old. There is 8.64 TB used and 5.91 TB free, In the last few weeks the drive has begun making a chattering, almost gear stripping noise. Does this mean the drive is about to fail?”

Please try again later.Thisnis likely due to the drive fulling up and the read/write head having to flutter all over the place to find new empty space tonwrite new files to. Hard drives are usually very opportunistic, and will write new data to empty space that is closest to where the head is currently at.
