“Can I use this to completely mirror my current old pc (windows 7) and all my files, pictures, favorites, bookmarks to transfer to a new pc with windows 10? will it cause issues copying windows 7 to a computer with windows 10? not tech savy at all, sorry”

Hi DMB9, The WD EasyStore Portable can be used to backup the data from the Windows 7 computer and to restore it on Windows 10 computer. You are asking about software rather than hardware. Think of this external hard drive as a cabinet. The size of the cabinet is 1 terabyte. Photos, reports, spreadsheets, videos generally are measured in kilobytes, or megabytes. Full length movies in gigabytes. This drive can store 1,000 gigabytes (a terabyte). As far as what can be stored, i refer to the cabinet analogy. You buy a cabinet, depending on its size you can put clothing, tools, etc., in the cabinet. This hard drive stores data, and it can store software such as the Windows operating system. In short, you can store everything that is on your older computer (Within the 1 TB limitation) on the drive. You can move the drive and connect it to another computer. Reading everything on the drive from your new computer will depend on the software you want to use being able to read the stored info. Photos are generally in 1 of several formats, (JPG, TIF, GIF, BMG, PNG, etc.)all of which can be read by most photo programs. Reports, letters, word processed documents are usually of a format that most word processors can read. For any specific program, data, you need to phone microsoft and their rep will tell you what computer programs from your older computer than used Windows 7 will not run on your new Windows 10 computer. The hard drive will work on any computer with any operating system be it Windows XP, or Windows 10, or Apple Lion, Tiger, Mojave, or the newest Catalina. It is a cabinet.
