“I am planning on purchasing this for my PS4. Due to my setup, I will need a cable longer than the one that's supplied. Has anyone purchased a separate cable with any issues installing/formatting the hard drive? Your shared experience is appreciated.”

If you find and purchase the cable you are looking for, I cannot imagine it not working properly. Exception would be if you get a really-long cable and it crosses other live electrical lines/wires.
