Hi Lynn, The WD EasyStore desktop hard drive is designed to be used with Windows or Mac computers. We have not tested and will not recommend connecting the hard drive to a mobile phone. Need Help? Please see our "'Contact Us" page for information
Sorry, there was a problem. For example USB 2.0 or USB 3.0, etc. The drive then shows up as a device whenever you are in a program and want to store something. Typically, you store things on your built in computer HARD DRIVE, BUT ALL CONNECTED DRIVES WILL BE LISTED AND YOU MAY SELECT WHICHEVER YOU CHOOSE. The drive does not connect wirelessly to anything; therefore, you cannot connect directly with your phone wirelessly. Most folks have their smart phones set up with a “CLOUD” type account. Apple uses it’s iCloud account where Apple iPhone and Apple computers are allowed a certain amount of free storage, and an option to purchase the amount of extra storage you need. The cloud program will automatically download stored items such as pictures and movies, documents to predesignated programs on the computers designated to share iCloud items. These programs set preferences as to where the computer should store data. The photo program can be set to store all pictures to an external drive. When a person takes a photo, it automatically shows up on the computer Photo program. If that photo program was set to an external drive as it’s default, the new photos will automatically be stored there. The photo program stores pictures on any designated storage, which could be an external drive such as the one you are inquiring about. In short, if you are able to get photos or videos to your computer from your phone today. It is extremely easy to then store them on your external drive directly from the computer or with a simple drag and drop In seconds to your purchased external hard drive, once it is connected via a USB cable (which comes with the drive).
