Mike, Depending on how the drive is formatted, it will work right out of the box for the HP laptop. For the Xbox you will have to format it to work with that system as most game systems use a special format.

It walks you through the formatting and was very easy. According to what I read, it's formatted for windows so it should work on your HP laptop, it just needs reformatting if you're going to use it on a MAC. Hope this helps.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Either or but not both at the same time. Xbox will format once you install it. Once thats done the pc can't read it and will want to format... and vice versa.
