There are WD Red drives inside with NASware 3.0. Be sure you get the drive manufactured in Thailand not China. The Thailand drives have a 256mb cache and the China ones are allegedly only 128mb. I found this out from a YouTube video by JDM_WAAT published on 7/26/2017 titled "Western Digital Easystore 8TB (WD Red inside) unboxing and shucking. I verified the 256mb cache on my Thailand drive (WD80EFAX-68LPHN0). The video shows how to open the enclosure without breaking it and shuck the drive in great detail. A+ would shuck again.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Yes there is. Use smartctl after plugging the drive into a PC in order to verify before taking it apart.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Mine came with the white label drive with the model # WD80EMAZ, 256MB cache, and made it Thailand. A lot of people are saying this is actually a Red drive and it did have the same firmware as my 8TB WD Red drives. I shucked it and put it in a Synology and the RAID is rebuilding right now.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.WD Reds are inside. You get either the 256MB cache (New WD RED) or the 128MB cache (Old WD RED). Bought it for $159 6/2017.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. Some come with Red Drives some come with White Drives all 256mb cache
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.More recently they have started showing up with white drives inside. Nothing wrong with them, but they aren't reds any longer.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I picked up two of the Made in Thailand version, and when I shucked one of the drives, and I did, indeed, pull out a WD Red, 256MB cache, 8TB drive with a model number of WD80EFAX-68LHPN0. Good luck shuckin'!
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.yes, these do indeed use Red drives. the person who you posted that review is an imbecile. all current Western Digital 8TB and 10TB drives are rebranded Hitachi Helium drives because WD bought Hitachi's hard drive business and are using their technology to build high capacity hard drives
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Yes, this contains a WD Red drive. Perfect for shucking for TiVo drive upgrade and I know people who use them as NAS drives.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Using CrystalDiskInfo I found a WD RED WD80EFAX-68LHPN0 model inside. It was made in Taiwan and reports 5400rpm and a 256Mb cache. The funny thing is the EFAX part of the model is listed only for the 10GB version which is also the only one to have a 256Mb cache, according to the WD website.
