• It has a cord that plugs into a 110 volt outlet. USB does not provide the power the cord does.

• It will work with a laptop or desktop computer, however you will need to use the included power adapter in order to provide enough power for the drive. Only portable hard drives are able to get enough power via the USB 2/USB 3 cable.

• Yes. Works fine with laptops. As long as the laptop has a USB connection. Which I don't know of one that doesn't.

• Yes, I can not imagine any system it will not work with. This is an external drive, not one of the "micro" drives that plugs into an USB port, and draws power from that. And those will not work with all USB ports, as port has to have enough capacity of 5 volts to supply the drive. My Book has an external power supply, and it must be used inorder for the drive to spin up.
