“Can hardware encryption be turned off? I just want to keep an extra back up copies on photos (nothing "confidential". I don't know how encryption works, but want to be able to use the back up files on any PC without doing anythign special or remember passwords, etc....”

• There is no need to use hardware encryption. It's available as an option.

• I don't know but I do know that all I do is plug in the USB and transfer or view. I don't have to enter passwords. I think the encryption is automatic
