No, you can setup the device and map it as a network drive so as long as the Sonos software can view a network drive then you are good to go. I have used two of these in different environments, home and business, and it works great. It doesn't have "backup" software that you install to sync data to it. You save your data directly to it and you can access that data from a local device/computer, online, or a mobile app. Regards, Valsar
