The issue is that the Mac uses one format to store files and Windows uses another. Mac is HFS or HFS+J (not sure what it stands for :-) ) but you can partition the drive into multiple partitions. Make one for Mac and the other for Windows which is NTFS format and you should be able to use the same drive for both machines. I dropped down into the user manual for the drive and found an entire section with links to WD for downloading tools and instructions if needed. They have a very good support staff and if you have any issues they should be able to help you. Think of it this way: You will be making one box for Mac and one box for Windows on the same hard drive. I was a programmer and analyst for over 40 years and believe me, we did this kind of thing all the time. I understand that Mac has some truly nice utilities for finding drives on a network so if that's the way you are going to work, you should be in good shape. Remember, my opinion but based on experience with WD. Apple has wonderful support people and so does HD so you are in good hands if you have questions.
