“Can It be configured as a Raid,using the usb port and a HD? I know with HD's they only last so long, what happens to all the stored files once the HD crashes. With online storage like dropbox , etc all files are backed up.”

I do not believe so. You need to have a Raid controller hardware and software.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I would not use this HD in a raid config. It's just not designed for that. When ANY HD crashes all files are lost ( in most cases). I is a best practice to have several backups across several HD's in the case of important files. Off line back ups are great but they are very slow in comparison to a local solution.
