I have this NAS and using only one drive and it is working fine but you will not going to have the option of RAID
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. You can use only one and add a second later. If you do this, you have three options. You can add the second as JBOD and have full storage space of both drives. Or you can create a raid0 which makes both appear as one drive. Third you can create a raid1 which has the second drive mirror the first. I know in raid0 you will lose the data on the drives as it has to reformat both drives. I believe you also lose it in raid1, but I’m not 100% sure on that one.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Yes you can use just one drive and add another later. I have owned this unit for about 6 months and have had no problems at all with it.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. To use RAID you must configure both drives at the ssme time. At the point that you add the second drive, if u have a third (external) drive to back everything up to then you could back up the first drive onto the third drive, reformat and set up RAID one drives 1 and 2 and then transfer back everything from drive 3 onto the raid configuration. I had to do this with mine because one of my original 2 drives was bad. It was long and kind of a pain but neverthess doable.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.No. I currently only use 1 hard drive with this. I had the same idea of future expansion when I bought it also.
