QuestionDo you need a wireless connection to copy photos from an SD card? I will need to back up photos during a trip where wireless will be spotty at best.

- Answer No. You can simply insert SD into a slot. While I have not played with this feature, it says there is an option to auto load (and delete, if you want) photos anytime an SD is loaded. Otherwise, the drive is simple drag and drop. Very easy to move files and if you want to show files on iPAD, there is a app that let's you do that wirelessly too....also, the drive can also create its own wireless wifi cloud as an option, so you do not need access to any other wifi to transfer files between your device and the drive.

QuestionWill this work with pdf files from an ipad?I would like to find a way to free up space on my ipad by transferring some pdf files to external storage.

- Answer Unless you have a lot of PDFs on your iPad, PDFs don't generally take up a lot of space. However, you can move these PDFs to the external drive. A PDF is a universal file format, so they would be fine to move to an external drive.

- Answer I think you should be able to do the backup to a cloud drive if you tether the Passport Hard Drive to a desktop or laptop to do the actual transfer of data. The faster your network the more likely the transfer will work.

QuestionWill this work in a situation where you want to -rent- movies via the iTunes store? I rent movies for road trips, but the iPad only has meager storage, so we are limited to renting just a couple of movies at a time.

QuestionCross Platform supportDoes this passport have proprietary Windows software preinstalled on it? The reason I ask is because I would be using it with mainly Macs and Linux-based computers. I need a general harddrive that all of the operating systems can use.

- Answer I have a Mac and a PC and can drag and drop files to and from both. No special software to install on computers, just drag and drop, like a thumb drive. Very simple and easy. If you want to use iPAD or iPhone, you do need an app, but it is pretty simple too. I do not have Linux, so cannot comment on that OS.

- Answer I installed mine on a network I already had installed at my house. I also brought it in to work and backed up my files from work. Not sure what you mean with your question. Both my home and work have laptops and computers that never disconnected from the wi-fi during installation and use. My drive is now connected directly to my router for whole house backup of pictures, music, and movies.

- Answer Yes. That is one of the cool features and no Internet or computer needed. Just push in the SD card and it will auto copy all of the photos. If you do not erase the card and put it in again later with more pictures it only copies the new ones. It can copy and auto delete them from the SD card or not via a configurable option.
