I have a Mac and a PC and can drag and drop files to and from both. No special software to install on computers, just drag and drop, like a thumb drive. Very simple and easy. If you want to use iPAD or iPhone, you do need an app, but it is pretty simple too. I do not have Linux, so cannot comment on that OS.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. The device has it's own software installed. You can use it with a Mac without installing any software but the WD Quick View software simply makes access a little easier. My Mac mounts it as a file share via WiFi. I think Windows work the same. No software is needed but a Windows version of WD Quick View does exist. You may also need a compatible player file to stream media from the device. I have not yet tried those features. Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. There is software preinstalled but you can format the drive for use with a MAC. There are apps for MAC on the drive as well as windows. You may want to take a look before getting rid of them. It's just some backup software and security software.
