I believe this is an HDD(Hard Disk Drive) not a SSD(Solid State Drive) drive. Western Digital SSD drives are called My Passport SSD. The SSD WD drive that is SSD similar to the My Passport for Mac is ...(4TB) Part#: WDBAGF0040BGY-WESN My Passport™ SSD from WD According to the description it is both PC and Mac compatible. If you are using a Mac contact Apple help to see if the drive needs to be reformatted for your computer. I'm only familiar with SSC as a SATA drive although the web appears to use SSC and SSD(Solid State Drive) OUT OF THE BOX COMPATIBILITY No setup required. Ready to use right out of the box and compatible with PC and Mac. Equipped with USB 3.2 Gen-2 technology, the My Passport™ SSD comes with a USB-C™ cable and USB-A adaptor to work with legacy systems.
