I believe this is an HDD(Hard Disk Drive) not a SSD(Solid State Drive) drive. Western Digital SSD drives are called My Passport SSD. The SSD WD drive that is SSD similar to the My Passport for Mac is ...(4TB) Part#: WDBAGF0040BGY-WESN My Passport™ SSD from WD According to the description it is both PC and Mac compatible. If you are using a Mac contact Apple help to see if the drive needs to be reformatted for your computer. I'm only familiar with SSC as a SATA drive although the web appears to use SSC and SSD(Solid State Drive) OUT OF THE BOX COMPATIBILITY No setup required.
