It will work for you. Just don't buy the one that's for the cloud as that one is a little more difficult with setting up for regular cpu users. Get the one that is standard that you can plugin to the computer. Like this one WD - My Book 6TB External USB 3.0/2.0 Hard Drive - Black. Maybe not as big but the same brand/type.

Since they make large capacity flash drives now I would just buy one of those since they are much more durable for what you want to do.

Aside from drivers, there may be some software involved but it will most likely be on the portable drive. It should work pretty much as a flash drive. Mine does. Straight copying of files should work just fine.
