There are no connections to Iphone or Ipad from a USB device such as this so I would use Itunes to transfer them to either the MAC or the PC to use them.

If I am misunderstood and you have Apple iPhone and iPad but no MacBook the yes you would have to save it to a PC first . You cannot plug this into and iPhone or iPad. Hope that helps
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.There are some apps which would allow you to transfer to the hard drive over wifi if you had the hard drive connected to a router. The hard drive cannot however connect to your iPad/iPhone.
