Hi Bullah, Sony added support for external USB hard drives on the PS5 with their April 2021 update. However, due to PS5 restrictions, games can only be played off the console’s internal SSD. As such, external USB storage hard drives only function as a faster way to hot-swap games and data on or off the PS5’s internal storage. -Need Help? Please see our "'Contact Us" page for information

Until a software update comes out and changes that, no external hard drive will allow you to install and run PS5 games unfortunately. However, this is one of the highest performing external hard drives you can use with the PS5 right now, and would be ideally suited to store media and PS4 games to free up space on the PS5's internal hard drive for other PS5 games. You should also be aware that software updates are planned for the PS5 this summer to allow an internal SSD hard drive expansion/upgrade, and details of that upgrade and it's possibilities are yet to be determined. In light of this, you might consider waiting until then to see if you may be better off just upgrading the internal hard drive instead. If waiting is not an option, external hard drives will always be a very useful upgrade to a PS5 and I would imagine many gamers using both an external hard drive and also upgrading the internal one anyway so an external drive will surely not go to waste - especially when you consider how large the 4k game recordings can be. A PS5 user recording a lot of gameplay vidoes will need a massive external hard drive to store them in addition to whatever internal storage may be possible in the future. Of course, it's also worth mentioning that this external hard drive can certainly be utilized on other gaming systems and PC's as well so it will always be good to have.
