The switch needs to be grounded for safety. Not a prerequisite for echo but a no brainer for safety.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I would certainly get a electrician to do the work
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. It must be connected to a ground and a neutral wire.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. No, but you should ALWAYS ground. If you don't have a ground wire for some strange reason, then ground to the box for your protection!!!
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I just bought a Wemo Wifi light switch a couple days ago. The instructions in the box say a ground wire is optional (usually a green wire or bare copper wire), but it must have a neutral wire (usually a white wire).

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I've grounded all my WeMo switches but more importantly you must have that third "white" wire or WeMo won't work. Although not for three-way lights, I made it work by keeping the second light switch always "on."
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Mine is grounded so i cant fully answer but i dont imagine Alexa could tell the difference. As long as the switch is operational and setup in the alexa app it should work.
