If there is a power surge than most likely the switch will disconnect from WiFi and when it powers back up will be in the off state which means your alarm won’t even turn on
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.hard to say for sure, might the power surge also compromise the plug too. Maybe plugged into a surge protector and then into to power source might offer the protection for the plug (and then the bear alarm too)

So it won’t add surge protection, but if you just need to shut off power then turn it back on to a device remotely, yes, as long as it can reach wifi from where it is plugged in it will allow you to toggle power remotely.
