• Cable or satellite are proprietary connections and are blocked from viewing without their set top boxes. The connection in the back of most TV's will let you receive OTA (Over The Air) with a digital antenna if you don't have cable, or satellite. Hope this helps.

• Depending on how your cable service works, you MAY still get your local TV stations by plugging directly into the wall; try it and see. You WON'T get your full cable package without a set top box though.
