“I bought this to use for screen mirroring my laptop/tablet only as it is advertised to have this capability. I cannot manage to do this (or much else) without a Roku account and internet. I will not connect it to my internet. Is there a fix for this?”

You would have to connect with an HDMI cable and use the split/duplicate screen option for your laptop if you aren't connecting it to wifi. Otherwise there is no way to connect. If you don't want to have cables, buy a wireless hdmi. A bit late on response but hope it helps someone.
