• Yes it can be left off. I had my TV set up today on that exact stand and it is beautiful and not on the mount - it is just sitting on the top shelf. Very satisfied and happy with the stand, it is really a nice piece

• Yes. The stand has a spine that runs up the back that comes all together for mounting. The top half can be removed. The bolts holding the top half of the spine might be tough to get off, but you can do it.

• Yes. You do not need to add the top TV mount. Without the TV monu, the back support will be level with the top shelf.
