“Does it have to be above the stove or could it sit on the counter like a normal microwave?”

• Could sit on counter top as well, but might need some coasters to sit on. Top looks unfinished since it is designed to be covered from the above stove cabinet. Light that is designed to light the stove is not usable on the bottom of the microwave.

• you're paying for the vent. Why buy this model if you don't need it? There are cheaper better options and this unit is not designed to sit, it's meant to be mounted.
