you can open door left or right, hinge is movable for either side. the ice maker is an option that must be installed but the valve and water tubing is already installed on the frig. the ice maker fits on the upper back left side of freezer not the door

I don't know whether the door can be opened from right, you would need to speak with someone from Whirlpool. The ice maker is inside of the freezer.
