I have one in the garage and never had any problems. I live in Alexandria, VA, the weather is the same as in Richmond.

That's the purpose for which we bought this unit. We have owned it for a couple of months. We live in Northern Virginia, we have it in an unheated garage and, so far, it has operated as it should.

While it may not get as cold where I live (SE WA), our garage is not heated and we had a couple weeks of 15-20 degree temp's. We did not add an ice maker so not water line was needed. Everything (coil, light, etc.) works just fine. hope this helps some.
