Apparently, this particular model does NOT vent through the drain hose. The vent on the upper left side door is precisely that...a vent for the steam. I asked Whirlpool if the unit vented through the drain hose then what is the purpose of the vent on the door. They replied that it doesn't vent through the hose, but through the door and sent apologizes for the confusion. Hope this answers your question (it did mine).
