• sounds like water is backing up into your dishwasher from the drainline, did you install with the air gap or install the drainline with a high loop to prevent backflow of water?

• Make sure your garbage disposal is clear of food before you run the unit. Another thing to research is to see if your lines coming from the unit are leveled correctly. I can't remember right now if it is an issue when it is too low or too high. Also make sure there is no standing water in the unit, i.e. not draining properly.
