Yes you can put it on the second floor. #1 rated front loading machine in Consumer Reports and the "preferred" machine. If the machine makes any noise at all in beginning, have a serviceman come out and balance and level the machine (delivery people are delivery people not service people) and you will have no problem. The machine is super quiet once this is done, plus the serviceman will hook up a laptop to it, run a test to make sure everything else is set properly. You almost can't hear it even when your in the room with the machine. The reason I believe it has an alarm on it is so you know when the wash is done, otherwise you would have no clue, even when high speed spin cycle is running you are unaware of it. Plus this machine is a stackable machine, meaning the dryer can go on top. I would say with that capability the machine has to have minimal vibration.
