How do I know if it’s washing clothes correctly? Clothes are damp but the washer doesn’t seem to fill with water null

I had a Whirlpool front loader that lasted 25 years, and now we have this new one. They are great machines and get the clothes clean. They don’t fill up with water, but rather toss the clothes in an out of a minimal amount of water.
