When I hooked it up, I also found the pump did not work. It turns out the bucket has to be REALLY full before the pump actually pumps the water out; the float on the right side of the unit is very high up. I also set the humidity for 35. I do not empty the bucket. Dehumidifier works just fine. In my case, I keep the time frame on "continuous" to be sure it keeps pumping even if I'm away. Then it's necessary to clean the screen filter about every three days, but that just requires a quick rinse and it dries pretty fast. I've had it going for several weeks and am very happy with it.
