Are the grates suppose to only swing up to a vertical resting place? That's what the manual says, but mine swing all the way over until they lay flat horizontal away from the stove. It makes a grinding metal when it swings open that far. null

Whirlpool Team. In response to your answer... I did, last week. They guy who answered looked in the manual and said it says they should stop vertical. He told me to go back to the store and inquire because if he sends out a repairman and it's not suppose to be that way, I would get charged.
