Is baking only by "convection"?   (4 Answers)

Is the oven function to only bake by "convection" or does it also bake traditionally? Also, how do bake times/methods change when switching to convection? For example, would there be a standard percentage change in baking time to apply?

Is Cast Iron usage safe for the top of this stove?   (1 Answer)

I've heard the horror stories where cast iron cracked, shattered, etc. glass stove tops. Has anyone used cast iron pots/pans yet? Any issues?

        Answer

There is truth to those horror stories; heavy iron cookware is not recommended because most do not have a perfectly flat bottom and are heavy; it doesn't take much of a distance of a drop to shatter ceramic cooktops especially if the bottom is domed slightly "consintrated inpact". Another issue with cast iron cookware is the rough grain which most of the contact area which if slid while cooking as I've seen cooks do as frying in skillets WILL SCRATCH THE GLASS or CERAMIC top; Glas is softer than iron. All that being written iron cookware will work with convection cooktops; as anything ferrous or magnetic is needed to for a magnetic field to excite the atoms in the cookware to heat up for cooking. I recommend buying the correct cookware recommended for convection cooking. As a side note if you want to erase old VHS tapes or destroy a smartphone or any sensitive electronic device put them on the cooktop with a burner on. The surface is cold to touch and won't melt anything plastic but will magnetically disrupt the magnetic storage media and overheat anything ferrous in electronic devices. It's easy to forget the burner is on and not turned off when removing cookware to another area and forgetting to turn it off. Experience can be an expensive teacher.

Does the knobs interfere with using the back burners for pots? With some ranges when a pot is placed on the back burner the pot cannot sit center on the burner because the knobs project out and interferes with the placement of the pot.   (1 Answer)
