Do you have to use pods or can you use liquid soap? null

You can use either just needs to be HE detergent. I use liquid more than pods.

you can use pods right into the washer or liquid or powder in the drawer dispenser.

I use liquid soap in the washer and it works fine. Haven't had any issues in the last 4 months of ownership
