I put it right next to my bed and aim it at me at night and I sleep like a baby. It is not loud enough to bother me. It is the second air condition I have owned and have always had in the bedroom. I don't like the room totally quiet anyway but really it is no distraction. This is a real nice air conditioner.

Also, it is quite large (check dimensions) and weighs about eighty pounds. Delivery in cardboard and other pieces were 100 pounds. Not something you would drag around house from room to room even though it is classified as portable.
