Q: QuestionDual Hose systemI've read about negative pressure in several reviews, that this dual hose system resolves it. It seems to me that if the intake hose is simply placed in a cool spot in the room, the A/C would then cool already cool air. The intake draws no more air than the exhaust expels, correct? I can't use a window. My only window's nearly at ceiling height and far too narrow for the ducting. Horizontal slide. I have to cut a hole in drywall to run the exhaust into an already very hot attic. I don't want to draw air (hot and dirty) from that attic. Open to opinions, views and suggestions. Tkx!! Doug

• A:Answer A dual hose system is the only type of portable a/c to consider. This is why. A/C units work in two parts, condenser and evaporator. The condenser is normally outside and the evaporator inside. Air flows through the condenser and cools the hot Freon which then goes to the evaporator and is expanded which makes it cold. Room air circulates through it and cools your room. The hoses are for the condenser side or hot side. With two hoses outside air comes in and passes through the condenser and is expelled outside as hot air from cooling the condenser Freon. In a single hose system the room air is passed through the condenser and expelled outside. This is not very efficient as your wasting your conditioned air to cool the condenser then venting the hot air overboard. This also causes a negative pressure which will cause hot outside air to be sucked into the room through every crack to equalize the pressure.

• A:Answer Yes, but they are expensive and there is a better way. Just get a scrap piece of plywood, cut it to size, then cut out the vent holes wherever you want them. Put a nice coat of primer on it, then paint whatever color to match. You will have a custom piece that is much more sturdy and will fit better than any plastic extension you can buy.

• A:Answer If your window does not open this will not work. That being said if you have a cold air return in your office you could probably scab something together by running the exhaust hose to the cold air return. If your office has no air return then it's a storage area and probably not legal to even use as an office. running the exhaust hose to the cold air return would work but it would not be as efficient.

• A:Answer This is just an air conditioner. It is not a filtering unit. It can not accept any other filter than the one in it that is cleanable. The 2 hoses that go in your window to bring in and exhaust air for the condenser side of the unit are not totally air tight and could let in some smoke. Having said that, this unit is the most efficient and best working portable A/C unit I have ever run. I love it. I would suggest getting a separate room air filter to filter smoke particulates and running it in the room you use this unit. That's what I've been doing and the air feels/smells clean and cool. Any filter MERV 13 and better will filter smoke.

Q: QuestionSince the exterior air is hotter why do we need to use the intake hose? When exterior air is cooler we don't need the A/C and just open doors and windows and use fans . Will it improve performance? We only need A/C on rare hot days & eves.

• A:Answer The unit does not draw air from the outside to be used inside your house. It draws air from the outside to cool the condenser side of the a/c system then exhausts the same air back outside. The air in your house is recirculated through the top evaporator side if the unit and that is what removes the heat in your house.

• A:Answer This item does not include a drain hose. The air conditioner uses the patented auto drain or self-evaporative technology which exhausts condensation automatically in most environments. Please note that if the humidity is very high, the auto drain function will still exhaust the majority of the moisture. The remaining moisture will be collected in the water tank at the base of the air conditioner and continue to self-evaporate until the tank becomes full and requires manual drainage.

• A:Answer The included window kit is designed to fit most standard vertically or horizontally sliding windows and measures, 6.5" W x 20" L (minimum), 46" (maximum).
  
  Since windows come in different sizes, some customization may be needed when installing the accessories. If the included solid window kit slide bar panels do not completely cover your window or door opening, most customers purchase an additional window kit and use both sets. Alternately, a customized longer solid slide bar panel can be made by cutting Plexiglas or PVC plastic to size to be used with the panel with the hose cut outs of the original window kit.
