“Can this unit be connected to a garden hose and drain directly into a flower bed outside of the area being dehumidified? If not, is there any other means of direct outside discharge? Is it an Energy Star unit? Apparently not but I wish to be certain.”

Yes a garden hose can be connected. It won't discharge if it has to go uphill. It is Energy Star rated. Great unit!
