• The antenna has to be powered by electricity or electricity through your TV if your TV has a USB connection.

• You need power in order to power the "booster" that helps it get extended range. The USB plugs into an included A/C adapter you can plug in to the wall, and the other end plugs into a small box/booster that is attached to the provided coax cable that plugs into the TV.

• This is a "powered" antenna, so you need the USB cable and included power supply to provide amplification to the antenna to improve signal strength.

• If, instead of using the electrical plug for power, you want to plug into a power source with USB outlets, you will use it for the connection.

• It's used for power, this is an amplified antenna. I believe it comes with a power brick or can be powered off a spare USB on TV.
