No, I use tap water, but one thing with tap water is that if you live in a area that has a high content of calcium and other additives in youre water, it builds up in the bottom of the unit.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.No. You can use tap water, bottle, filtered, etc. Distilled water is highly recommended for a few reasons. First and foremost, water has minerals. We cannot see these minerals but they are there. Eventually, these minerals build up in the humidifier and over time cause issues. Also, when the water is misted into your room, the minerals over time create what people refer to as a white dust around the area the humidifier is in. This is from the minerals the water leaves behind on surfaces. Distilled water does not have these minerals, so it is preferred but no you do not only have to use distilled water.
