- Answer Hello, and thank you for your inquiry! Yes, the WG512 does need to be plugged into an extension cord and then directly into a wall outlet. The owner’s manual includes an extension cord chart to help you choose the correct cord length and gauge for safe operation. Tip: When selecting an extension cord, always match the gauge and length recommended in the manual. A heavier gauge (lower number) is better for longer distances because it reduces voltage drop and prevents overheating. For example, for cords over 50 feet, you’ll typically need a 12-gauge cord instead of a 14-gauge. Thank you for choosing WORX tools!
