No, the monthly service is for features such as motion detection to be recorded 24/7 but if you want just live feed and a few recorded motion detections 5 minutes from each other then no service is required.

You may use the 12-second alert video option with a 5-minute cool-down period, a microSD card set to continuous recording or event recording, or Cam Plus which is an add-on service that extends the recording period of the 12-second alert videos.
