If the batteries are dead you can give the lock a quick charge by placing a 9 volt battery under the keypad. there is an obvious place for it.

I have had mine for almost six months with no battery issues. If you do find yourself in a situation with a dead battery, there are contact points under the keypad for a 9 volt battery. Hold the 9v battery to those points and it will power the keypad so you can unlock the door.
