The user guide shows a direct connection from a turntable to the phono jacks on the receiver, with this note: "The PHONO jack of the unit is compatible with an MM cartridge. To connect a turntable with a low output MC cartridge, use a boosting transformer."
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Whether a pre-amp is needed depends on your turntable.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. The Yamaha receivers have a Phono Input which accommodates MM Standard (High Output) Heavy older style Cartridges. If you are using any quality Turntable it will have an MC type Cartridge with replicable Needle and (Low Output), which will require as the manual states a step up Transformer or Pre-Amp. I use a Pre Amp with my new Yamaha and it sounds Terrific. All in all it is nice to have the input for the Turntable. So final answer NO, the extra pre amp stage is not there. Hope this helps you out!
