“I am not sure if this was really asked, but is there a way to have everything connected via HDMI and still be able to view TV without having the system on? I thought the pass-thru feature was supposed to allow this?”

I'll answer my own question. It cannot allow for standby pass through. I ended up returning the unit and upgrading to Yamaha's RX-V481 model, which has a feature called Standby Through. With that, I can watch TV with the unit off as long as I leave it on the appropriate input. Thanks for the answers!

Until you mentioned it, I forgot about that! No, I can find nothing in the 80-page downloaded manual or the Setup Menu about bypass/pass-thru - and you're right, if I kill the power on just the receiver, the TV loses its HDMI input...

Sorry, ElektricMD. I don't have an answer, but I certainly would like to know. I have issues with the sound going out while watching television through the HDMI. That passthrough hasn't worked for me.
