Is the remote RF ? null

Negative. And it's not the strongest IR I've seen...

No, it's a standard remote that has to be pointed at the receiver to work. It's not as finicky as some I've had so you can get away with pointing it in the general direction of the receiver. I do think though that there is an optional RF remote available but I don't know the cost
